The vision for Talus was born of a search for something that complemented the Natural Beauty of the Puget Sound region, close to every convenience, yet offering an alternative to urban living. This quest led to Seattle’s eastside where the quiet beauty of the Issaquah Alps served as the inspiration for a new urban mountain sanctuary.

Located in the foothills of Cougar Mountain, Talus is part of the largest urban wildland in the nation, spanning 20,000 acres across Cougar, Squak and Tiger Mountains. With an understanding of the importance of protecting the eastern portal to the wildland, a decade was spent working with environmental groups and the City of Issaquah to create an ecologically sensitive plan.

Protecting the Gateway to the Issaquah Alps
Of Talus’ 630 acres, only a fourth are open to human habitation. The remainder is protected or enhanced natural space, including nearly 400 contiguous acres provide one of the last final links in the vast Mountains to Sound Greenway. This dedicated region also preserves a critical wildlife corridor connecting the Issaquah Alps, setting aside a home for Talus’ first inhabitants: white-tailed deer, red-legged frogs and pileated woodpeckers.

The promise of Talus is that the legacy of this land will be protected, enhanced and passed on for generations to come…a living symbol of a more peaceful and harmonious way of living with nature.
